Although she is a whale and her father is a crab, it is not given as a definite fact whether she was adopted, or if her mother is a whale. However, in "Whale of a Birthday", Mr. Krabs states that he has had an "It's a boy(crossed out) girl" banner since the day she was born, which indicates that she was not adopted.Even so, if her mother was a whale, wouldn't she at least have half the features of a crab?
